Comic's Most Iconic Vigilantes

The Dark knight

When we often think of vigilantes for a fact the first character that comes to mind is the batman himself. I mean he is the literal description of what you would call a vigilante. Quiet as night itself, vigilant, resourceful, stoic and even a millionaire at that. This character truly lives up to it’s writing, and that’s why everyone loves batman. But the question everyone tends to ask is who is the best batman?

Christian Bale’s Batman

With some Bias here and there I would say Christian bale is the best batman overall. When people tend to think of the characteristics of batman Christian’s batman doesn’t come to mind because they think of batman as this mysterious antisocial figure who get’s straight to the point. But from my analyzation of Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, Christian Bale is the closest to a perfect batman that we can ever get.

Why do I say such? The original batman writing suggests that the character should be dark and brooding, highly intelligent, a skilled combatant, resourceful and stoic. Bale’s batman embodies all of these with his charismatic Bruce Wayne representation who uses his high intelligence to overcome villains and uses multi million resource technology to help him fight crime in Gotham. You might think being batman requires much more than that, but the truth is that the character is indescribable and there’s no performance that could ever come close to what Bale offered us in the trilogy. At the end of the day he left us a mesmerizing performance of who the bat could be.

Green Arrow

You can’t possibly mention crime and the word vigilante without thinking of green arrow can you! When the story was first introduced to me as a child, I had to pause to process the backstory. I mean this guy’s backstory is much much more tragic than batman’s. The story unravels Oliver queen a young man who survived being left on a deserted island just to adopt the role of a crime fighting vigilante, known as green arrow. In the futuristic town known as Star City where also dwells one of our own, The Flash.

It seems like all modern heroic vigilantes have some things in common because his skills resemble that of batman himself which include; Hand to Hand Combat, Master Archery, Strategy Tactics along with the possession of high tech gadgets. But one thing it differs from batman is the concepts it covers. Green Arrow often covers the themes of social justice, economic disparity and political corruption, setting out to solve real life problems by addressing the root cause. Which is why it’s one of my personal vigilante stories because it covers problems society encounters in normal life but takes a vengeful approach to solving them.

Deadpool

People fail to recognize Deadpool as a vigilante, but when you mention fan favorite you have to think of the words Dead-Pool. His written character just has something the other vigilantes don’t, he has this sort of goofy charisma, we could say Christian Bale has charisma, but what other vigilante on this list is making us laugh while beating the heck out whoever he’s fighting. His almost unpredictable demeanor is what attracts us to the character, plus his goofy but relaxed and effected fighting style. It seems like he doesn’t even try, and sometimes you never really know the next words coming out of his mouth.

But the distinction of this character in all it’s attributes is what landed him a spot on this list. Also more likely than not, the actor who played the role had a significant impact on how the character was portrayed, Ryan Reynolds brought out the flame when he acted out this role, and knowing Ryan’s personality I don’t think anyone matches the character better. And Deadpool having the freedom to fight whoever he wants however he wants, while entertaining himself at it, is what landed him on this list. He fights crime not for the sake of others approval but for the sake of knowing justice is served one way or another and this is why I think he is a perfect vigilante.
